The U.S. Mission Addis Ababa is seeking an individual for the position of Compound Guard in the Regional Security Office of the Embassy.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the Compound Shift Supervisor, the incumbent performs guard service to safeguard U.S. Government personnel and property. Performs Guard duties on a regular or rotating shift at either a stationary post or walking patrol post and searching visitors’ bodies and belongings in any one of the several assignments located in the main Chancery, USAID, CDC or Peace Corp.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
a. Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
b. Prior Work Experience: 1 year previous work experience as a Watchman with the U.S. Embassy and/or previous military, police experience, law enforcement or security experience is required.
c. Language Requirement: Level 3 (Basic Knowledge) Speaking/Reading English and Amharic is required.
d. Other Skills: Must have knowledge of officials, flags and vehicles of diplomatic missions to be able to identify promptly when admittance to the compound and ability to direct traffic at the gate is required.
e. Other Criteria: Being female is required.
f. Interpersonal Skill Requirements: Must exhibit cooperative working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
4. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
