The U.S. Mission Addis Ababa is seeking an individual for the position of a Medical Officer (Western Trained) in the Health Unit.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The incumbent will provide professional medical consultation services to all official American employees and dependents assigned to the U.S. Embassy and other agencies associated with the Embassy in Ethiopia. Incumbent will provide initial assessment and referral for locally engaged staff (LES) for on-the-job injuries.
Assist with community health projects and staff training, including but not exclusive of CPR and AED, first aid, immunization drives, health fairs and disaster drills.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Required Education: M.D. collegiate degree, completion of an approved internship and residency, and a license to practice medicine acceptable in the host country (comparable to requirements in the U.S) are required.
2. Required Prior Experience: Prior practice in the U.S. or country with a similar health care standard and at least six years of progressive experience in internal medicine, family practice, emergency medicine, and OB/GYN, of which one year experience in a supervisory role is required.
3. Language Requirement: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading English is required. Fluency in the use of professional medical terminology is required.
4. Other Skills: Must have general practice knowledge and understanding to deal with cases frequently seen in Health Unit. Specifically, must have knowledge and understanding of Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life, and should have regularly attended annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) training and seminars to stay current with medical practice at US and European standards.
5. Interpersonal Skill Requirements: Ability to tactfully, compassionately, and discretely interact with public in person and by phone.

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
4. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
