Applying for a U.S. Passport
U.S. citizens present in Ethiopia may apply for a U.S. passport at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa Monday through Thursday between 1:00pm and 3:00pm by appointment. Please use on the following link to schedule an appointment online http://evisaforms.state.gov/ACSSchedulingSystem.asp.
You may cancel or change your scheduled appointment in advance if necessary by accessing the scheduling calendar. Applicants who fail to appear for a scheduled appointment must schedule a new appointment before submitting an application for a passport.
U.S. citizen applying for a U.S. passport services at the Embassy in Addis Ababa should fulfill all the requirements stated below.
- Passport Renewal for Adult 18 years old and above
- Passport Renewal for Adult between the age of 16 and 17 years
- Passport Renewal for Children under the age of 16

U.S. Citizens with a justified emergency situation can obtain a limited validity replacement passport during regular ACS hours. Emergency passport requests related to lost/stolen passports should be accompanied by a police report translated into English and proof of the need for immediate travel. Form DS-11 and DS-64 should be filled to process the application for replacement of a lost/stolen passport. The fee for emergency passports, when justified, is $135 or the equivalent in Ethiopian Birr. All other passport requests will be processed within two weeks.
