Information for U.S. Journalists and Film Crews Coming to Ethiopia
Journalists and film crews working in Ethiopia are required by the Ethiopian Government to have press visas and credentials, and to declare film equipment at customs. Journalists and film crews should apply to the Ethiopian Government Communication Affairs Office for credentials and customs assistance before traveling to Ethiopia.
Journalists and film crews traveling independently to Ethiopia to report should contact the Ethiopian Government Communication Affairs Office and the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington, DC to apply.
Journalists traveling to Ethiopia with a United States Government delegation or to cover an official U.S. Government visit or event should contact the Information Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, who may be able to assist with the credentialing process.
Only the Ethiopian Government Communication Affairs Office can provide the authoritative and most current information about the credentials application and customs process. In general, the application consists of the following:
- An application form (available from the GCAO);
- A digital or hard copy photograph;
- A letterhead from the media organization indicating the individual's function (reporter, producer, cameraman, etc.)
