Educational Advising Services

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) in Addis Ababa provides group and individual advising services for persons who wish to study, train or do research in the United States. The educational advising services include a small educational library of reference guides and catalogs from various U.S. colleges and universities.

The planned periodic group advising session will include a brief video presentation; a general discussion on higher education in the United States; a question and answer session; distribution of related materials and handouts and familiarization with PAS educational library resources.

All those who wish to study for undergraduate, graduate, short term and professional courses in the United States are most welcome to use the advising services and the educational library resources.

The educational advising services is given at the Public Affairs Section in the U.S. Embassy. Following is the regular advising schedule: 

The Weekly Group Sessions

Undergraduate Study programs - Monday 2:00 – 2:45 PM   

Postgraduate Study Programs - Monday  3:00: - 3:45 PM  

Individual Sessions

Thursday 2:00 – 3:00 PM  – By appointment only

Library Hours

Monday - Friday : 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ; 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

PAS is closed on Ethiopian & American Holidays

Services we provide

  • A periodic group advising session entitled "If You Want to Study in the U.S." Includes a brief video presentation, a general discussion on education in the United States, a question and answer session, free materials and handouts and tour of the PAS educational library. (registration required)
  • Free information and application booklets for the standardized examinations (GRE, TOEFL, GMAT, etc.)
  • Reference guides that provide information on undergraduate, graduate, short-term/non-degree opportunities available in the United States. (for in library use only)
  • Listings of current scholarship, fellowship, grant, research, internship and exchange opportunities available in the United States. (for in library use only)
  • Catalogs from American colleges and universities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. (for in library use only)
  • Reference guides and brochures on short-term English language programs (for in library use only)
  • Free informational material on study in the United States.

Services we do not provide

The PAS educational advising center serves only as a source of information and materials for persons wishing to study in the United States. The center does NOT:

  • order college applications or catalogs for individual use
  • provide college reference or recommendation letters
  • provide scholarships or any other type of funding
  • provide information unrelated to study in the U.S.
