Press/Information Section
The major function of the Press/Information office of the Public Affairs Section is to provide information on the various activities of the U.S. mission in Addis Ababa and to disseminate news and information to key media, government and non-government contacts. Its other duties include organizing interactive dialogue and discussions via satellite or telephone between guests in Washington and Addis Ababa, organizes journalism training programs, and provide audio-visual material to broadcasting organizations. Details are listed below: Press/Information Office - Provides media institutions and selected organizations with the daily Washington file.
- Provides various media, governmental, non-governmental organizations as well as embassies with the Weekly Special Report, a summary from the daily Washington file. The Weekly Special Report is found in our web site.
- Issues press releases on the activities of the U.S. mission.
- Supplies recorded programs on science, environment, English language teaching etc to broadcasting organizations.
- Arranges telepress conferences via telephone between individuals in Washington and Addis Ababa on a wide range of topics.
- Distributes electronically-transmitted features and articles to relevant individuals and organizations and PAS publications on democracy, economic issues, various aspects of U.S. Society, environment, media and communications, etc.
- Organizes training programs for journalists on a variety of topics.
- Organizes interactive satellite discussions between Washington and Addis Ababa through State's Worldnet programs on a variety of topics and invites guests for call-in Africa Journal satellite programs with Washington.
